The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Islamabad/Rawalpindi has overseen the transfer of 6,500 kanals of amenity and public utility land from private housing societies to the Capital Development Authority (CDA), marking a major step toward strengthening regulatory compliance and safeguarding public assets.

According to an official statement, the transfer was carried out under the supervision of NAB Director General Waqar Ahmed Chauhan, following a high-level meeting that directed authorities to expedite the process within legal and regulatory frameworks. The move addresses longstanding issues, including delays in land transfers and misuse of plots designated for public purposes.

In the first phase, 5,484.76 kanals of land in Gulberg Residencia and 999 kanals in Margalla View D-17 were formally handed over to CDA. A registration ceremony was held at NAB offices to mark the completion of this phase.

Prime Minister Launches Apna Ghar Housing Scheme Nationwide

Officials said the total value of the transferred land is estimated at around Rs66 billion, including approximately Rs41 billion based on Deputy Commissioner rates and Rs25.43 billion in market value of public utility land. Additionally, around 4,793 kanals have already been transferred through mutation across multiple housing schemes, while another 4,500 kanals are expected to be transferred soon.

The development also resolves the long-pending Civil Employees Housing Society case, which remained unresolved for nearly 31 years.

Separately, NAB Chairman Lt-Gen (retd) Nazir Ahmed met Federal Minister for Housing and Works Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada to discuss reforms in housing assets. The meeting emphasised transparency, better utilisation of state land, and adoption of international housing models.

Officials noted that thousands of residential units, particularly in Karachi, remain tied up in legal disputes and unauthorised occupation, causing financial losses. Authorities stressed the need for coordinated policy reforms to protect public resources and improve governance in the housing sector.
